Staying In / Things To Watch

7 Movie Night Themes!

With the most of us still in hibernation mode and trying our best to stay indoors with the occasional walk outside to get our Vitamin D, it’s important to mix it up and keep our days fresh, interesting, and exciting.

We have movies galore available and ready to stream from every device we can potentially put in our palms.

You can keep your days and movies exciting with these Movie Night themes to feel like you are a character in the film and hanging out with all of them.

These themes will have you feeling as though you are part of the scenery and to take things up a notch, you can have everyone watching even dress the part.

Pizza Night Movie Theme

Pepperoni pizza or pizza nights – You can watch movies or shows that are about pizza or involve pizza in the story line. Since pizza is a staple food for many teens, think of what teen movies you love.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (of course!)
  • Mystic Pizza
  • Fast Times (the Spicoli pizza scene is a classic!)
  • Do the Right Thing
  • Wayne’s World
  • She’s All That

Ok, westerns are great movies and kids love seeing cowboys. What would a cowboy eat? Well, think of food like a big steak dinner. Or, what would if they cook over an open fire? Maybe you want to try this in your fireplace at home or your outdoor grill. But please be safe and purchase the proper equipment. You could cook hot dogs, smores, jiffy pop popcorn, and toasted marshmallows. (A reminder that some westerns contain gun violence, and may not be suitable for young children). This theme is especially fun if you dress the part. Try to get creative and make a horse out of household items.

  • Lonesome Dove
  • True Grit
  • Longmire
  • High Noon
  • The Unforgiven
  • The Magnificent 7
  • Dances with Wolves
  • Legends of the Fall

Camping and the Outdoors

Other movies that would fit with the food above-camping and outdoors! If you have the ability to, try to make this an outdoor movie night and watch the film under the stars. Extra points if you have a fireplace or firepit to keep things cozy.

  • The Great Outdoors
  • Meatballs
  • Grown Ups
  • Moonrise Kingdom
  • and Deliverance and Stand by Me noted in other categories
  • Blair Witch?
  • Friday the 13th?

Southern Movie Night Ideas

Many great films are set in the South. So gather up your best Southern menu and make it an event. Southern BBQ, black-eyed peas, gumbo, pecan pie, biscuits, anything Cajun, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, and drink some sweet tea. Grab that southern cookbook and have a great time.

  • Forrest Gump
  • Fried Green Tomatoes
  • Steel Magnolias (Bring a box of tissue)
  • Cold Mountain
  • Lincoln
  • Deliverance (not for kids!)
  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Mob/Mafia Movie Night

Totally optional to dress the part for this movie theme. Some may not want to dress their best to sit in the living room eating popcorn to watch a movie. But if everyone involved is game, we say go for it! Try to give everyone a mafia nickname to make things funny: Sly Nick, Tony Smiles, Mary the Rose. Two Hat Johnny, etc. (A reminder that many mobster movies are not appropriate for young children, check first!)

  • The Godfather
  • The Last Godfather
  • Stand Up Guys
  • Wannabes
  • 30 for 30: Playing for the Mob
  • The Family
  • Killing Them Softly
  • Casino
  • Goodfellas
